Bangkok: The government is taking care of flooding, approving urgent funds to expedite relief for flood victims in the northern and upper central regions. Ms. Sasikan Wattanachan, Deputy Government Spokesperson, revealed that the Comptroller General’s Department has approved an extension of the reserve funds under the authority of the governors of Sukhothai and Mae Hong Son provinces by 50 million baht each, and another 20 million baht for Chiang Mai province, totaling 120 million baht. These funds will be used to provide emergency relief to flood victims affected by Tropical Storms Kajiki and Nong Fa, which have caused flash floods, mudslides, and damage to homes and agricultural areas in many areas of the North and Northeast.
According to Thai News Agency, as of September 3, 2025, a summary of damage from Tropical Storm Kajiki found that 4 provinces were affected: Chiang Mai, Mae Hong Son, Sukhothai, and Phitsanulok, covering 10 districts, 27 sub-districts, 104 villages, with 2,979 households and a total of 6,360 people affected. Meanwhile, the situation from Tropical Storm Nong Fa continues to impact 6 provinces: Chiang Mai, Phetchabun, Uttaradit, Loei, Nong Bua Lamphu, and Chumphon, covering 17 districts, 66 sub-districts, 234 villages, with 9,589 households and a total of 32,094 people affected.
The government has urged all provinces still experiencing flooding to expedite relief efforts, including evacuating residents, establishing temporary shelters, deploying disaster relief machinery to expedite water drainage, and providing compensation for the dead, injured, and those affected by property damage. In areas where the situation has improved, immediate surveys, repairs, and restoration of homes, agricultural areas, and infrastructure are being undertaken. Lessons learned from the incidents are being used to develop effective future prevention and response measures.
“The government stands ready to stand alongside citizens in all disaster-affected areas by expediting transparent and rapid relief and rehabilitation, ensuring that every family can regain a safe and secure quality of life in a sustainable manner,” said Ms. Sasikarn.
