Surin: The Governor of Surin, Mr. Chamnan Chuenta, presided over a ceremony to distribute financial assistance to the families of those who lost their lives in the recent Thai-Cambodian border conflict. The ceremony, attended by heads of government agencies, saw the presentation of 1 million baht in compensation to three bereaved families.
According to Thai News Agency, the financial aid is part of the Disaster Relief Fund, which is provided by the Office of the Prime Minister. This initiative, approved in principle by the Cabinet, aims to support individuals affected by the border conflict. The compensation structure includes 1,000,000 baht for death, 700,000 baht for disability, 200,000 baht for serious injuries, 100,000 baht for major injuries, and 50,000 baht for minor injuries. Provincial governors have been instructed to utilize these funds to offer assistance to those directly impacted by the conflict.
In Surin Province, five individuals have succumbed due to the unrest at the border. Compensation has already been distributed to three families, whose funeral ceremonies have been completed. The remaining two deceased individuals’ bodies are still in hospital care under the royal patronage of His Majesty the King. The relatives of these individuals are still undergoing treatment and making necessary arrangements.
The atmosphere at the evacuation center was notably lively last night, with volunteers organizing entertainment for the evacuees. The night featured performances by the Sting band and a Mor Lam caravan, adding a sense of community and support during these challenging times.
