Su-ngai kolok: The Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) Region 4 has raised suspicions that the recent audacious robbery of a well-known gold shop in the heart of Su-ngai Kolok city may be linked to the Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN) insurgent group. The group is believed to be seeking financial resources to bolster its activities. A key piece of evidence has emerged with the discovery of a suspicious vehicle, reportedly used in the heist, abandoned in a local villager’s palm plantation.
According to Thai News Agency, the robbery involved approximately seven individuals who targeted a gold shop in Su-ngai Kolok, Narathiwat Province, under the cover of night. The assailants made off with about 600 baht of gold jewelry, valued at approximately 36 million baht, from a total stock of 800 baht. In response, security forces have heightened their vigilance, establishing checkpoints and blockades across all routes in the southern border provinces. They are also liaising with security counterparts in neighboring countries to seal potential escape routes.
In a bid to gather more information, authorities have disseminated photos and details of two stolen pickup trucks believed to be connected to the robbery. Citizens are urged to report any relevant information via the 24-hour hotlines 1341 or 191.
Police Lieutenant General Piyawat Chalermsri, the Commander of Provincial Police Region 9, personally inspected the crime scene at the shopping mall. During his visit, he received a detailed briefing on the robbers’ swift operation, which involved hijacking a local pickup truck and fleeing the premises within a mere 10 minutes. The robbers also planted a bomb to hinder pursuit, reinforcing suspicions that the crime was orchestrated by skilled insurgents rather than ordinary criminals.
