Bangkok: Suvarnabhumi Airport has achieved a significant milestone by being ranked first in the world for the number of airlines it serves, positioning Thailand as a premier tourist destination.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Sasikarn Wattanachan, the deputy government spokeswoman, revealed that a survey conducted by Brilliant Maps identified Suvarnabhumi Airport as the leading airport globally with 113 airlines in operation. Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport followed in second place with 105 airlines, while Dubai International Airport secured the third spot with 97 airlines. Istanbul International Airport was ranked fourth with 93 airlines.

The list continued with Rome Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport in fifth place hosting 92 airlines, followed by Milano Malpensa Airport in sixth with 86 airlines. Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Narita International Airport both ranked seventh with 83 airlines each. Singapore Changi Airport was ninth with 82 airlines, and Frankfurt Airport completed the top ten with 80 airlines.

This achievement aligns with the Thai government’s ongoing efforts to enhance Suvarnabhumi Airport’s capabilities, aiming to provide a more convenient, safe, and modern travel experience. The goal is to transform the airport into a world-class aviation hub, bolstering Thailand’s status as a regional leader in tourism and aviation.

Ms. Sasikarn emphasized that the government, through the Ministry of Transport and related agencies, is committed to accelerating the development of Thailand’s aviation industry. This initiative aims to boost trade, investment, and tourism, thereby contributing to the nation’s economic recovery. Suvarnabhumi Airport, which previously moved up to 39th from 58th in the world’s best airports ranking, aspires to be among the top 20 within the next five years.
