Surin: The Royal Thai Army is preparing to submit evidence to the International Organization for Treaty (IOT) regarding Cambodian encroachment, ambush, and mine laying. Cambodian soldiers were found violating sovereignty, lying in ambush, and laying landmines. The Royal Thai Army clearly stated that the ceasefire agreement was violated again and is preparing to report the evidence to the IOT committee.
According to Thai News Agency, the Royal Thai Army received a report from the Second Army Area on August 23, 2015, concerning Cambodian military activities within Thai territory. On the previous day, at 4:00 PM, military units detected 2-3 Cambodian soldiers, suspected to be part of a BHQ unit, conducting an ambush and reconnaissance operation against the Thai side. This occurred west of Hill 350, Bak Dai Subdistrict, Phanom Dong Rak District, Surin Province, approximately 100 meters inside Thai sovereign land. Thai forces fired to drive the intruders away, causing them to flee.
Upon ensuring the area was safe, the Thai unit conducted an inspection and discovered a PMN-2 mine near the location where the Cambodian soldiers had been lying in ambush. The area was marked for further inspection by a mine detection team.
On August 23, 2015, a bomb disposal team conducted another inspection of the surrounding area and found two additional PMN-2 mines, bringing the total to three. They also discovered two grenade launcher shells and a large number of sailboat nails.
Army spokesman Major General Winthai Suvari commented that the incident clearly demonstrates Cambodia’s violation of several ceasefire agreements, including provocations, territorial incursions, and the use of landmines against the Thai side. He criticized Cambodia’s attempts to portray Thailand as the aggressor to the international community, stating that the truth and evidence confirm Cambodia’s consistent acts of aggression and violations of agreements, including the Ottawa Convention.
The Royal Thai Army plans to submit all gathered evidence to the IOT team and has instructed all units along the border to closely monitor any further ceasefire agreement violations by Cambodia.
