Bangkok: The Thai Chamber of Commerce has expressed concern over the ongoing situation at the Thai-Cambodian border, urging all parties involved to exercise caution. The Chamber emphasized that there has never been a policy to block border trade between the two countries.
According to Thai News Agency, Dr. Poj Aramwattananon, Chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade of Thailand, reported that the recent unrest at the border resulted in numerous deaths and injuries, affecting both military personnel and civilians. The incident has also impacted economic confidence, disrupting trade and investment activities between Thailand and Cambodia.
The Thai Chamber of Commerce and the Board of Trade of Thailand have urged all involved to take prudent actions to resolve the situation swiftly, ensuring stability, security, and regional cooperation. Such cooperation is deemed beneficial for both countries.
Regarding trade and investment, the Chamber reaffirmed that Thailand has kept its border checkpoints open, with no policy to block trade. However, security measures and the ongoing violence have led to a slowdown in economic activities, which are anticipated to resume normalcy once the situation is stabilized.
Lastly, the Thai Chamber of Commerce extended support to the Thai military and security agencies committed to protecting the nation's sovereignty, expressing hopes for the safety of all citizens amid the situation.
