Thai Soldiers Confirm Difficult Conditions Amidst Border Tensions with Cambodia

Kantharalak: Thai soldiers stationed along the Thai-Cambodian border have confirmed reports of a distressing situation involving the remains of Cambodian soldiers. The soldiers have admitted to detecting the odor of the corpses of Cambodian soldiers who were left behind, a situation exacerbated by their inability to act due to duty constraints. The deployment of face masks, including N95 masks, has provided some relief as soldiers express gratitude for public support and reaffirm their commitment to their responsibilities.

According to Thai News Agency, the ongoing mission to defuse bombs fired by Cambodia into Thai civilian areas continues in the Kantharalak District of Sisaket Province. Notably, a BM-21 rocket was found in a rice field in Thung Yai Subdistrict, and a PG-7 rocket was discovered in a rubber plantation in Sao Thong Chai Subdistrict. The Sisaket Provincial Governor has notified relevant authorities about the controlled destruction of these explosives to prevent misunderstandings.

The discover
y of explosives highlights the tension between the two nations, with the PG-7 rocket, capable of targeting tanks, particularly concerning. The recent Thai-Cambodian General Border Committee (GBC) meeting in Malaysia has prompted increased security measures, including intensified patrols by Village Defense Volunteers (VDV) amid local apprehensions.

Despite the quiet atmosphere, the VDV’s vigilant patrols continue, as observed by the Thai News Agency team. Local residents, like 62-year-old grocery store owner Mae Lai, face challenges due to the conflict. Mae Lai, caring for her husband who has health issues, stays at home while her children and grandchildren seek refuge in shelters. She expressed anxiety over her grandson’s safety and hopes for a swift resolution to the situation.

Additionally, reports of a drone sighting with blinking lights have further unsettled the community, adding to the existing concerns over safety and security in the region.
