Thailand: Thailand has partnered with Japan to develop innovative dental drills, setting up a production base within the country. This initiative aims to reduce import costs by 3 billion baht, generate an annual income of 1 billion baht, and enhance public dental service quality.
According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Government Spokesperson Mr. Anukul Prueksanusak highlighted the collaborative efforts from the National Health Security Office (NHSO), Thailand Center of Excellence in Life Sciences (TCELS), and the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA). These organizations have provided research support, consultation, and standard certification, fostering confidence in Thai innovation. This collaboration culminated in a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Thai Dental International Co., Ltd. and Japan’s Seiko Instruments at the Osaka World Expo 2025. The MOU focuses on developing cutting-edge dental handpieces and establishing a manufacturing plant in Thailand to meet domestic and international demands.
Mr. Anukul reported that Thailand currently imports dental drills worth approximately 3 billion baht annually, with limitations in repair and after-sales service. The MOU is expected to reduce import dependency. By 2026, the companies aim to achieve domestic sales of 500 million baht and export revenues of another 500 million baht, creating local jobs and bolstering Thai dental technology’s global competitiveness.
He further noted that this collaboration showcases the potential of Thailand’s private sector to develop medical technology on a global scale. Continuous government support has spurred investment, employment, and reduced import reliance. This initiative not only improves public access to quality dental services but also stimulates economic growth through the production and export of innovative Thai products.
