Nonthaburi: Thailand's national futsal team drew 2-2 with South Korea, securing the top position in Group B and advancing to the final round of the 2026 Asian Futsal Championship.
According to Thai News Agency, the match took place at the Nonthaburi Provincial Administrative Organization Gymnasium. Thailand, ranked 11th in the world, faced off against South Korea, ranked 73rd. Both teams entered the contest with two wins each and a total of 6 points. The Thai team, managed by Miguel Rodrigo, started the game with players Phanurat Olan (GK), Chaowala Sri-awut, Sarawut Phalapruek, Muhammad Usmanmusa, and Krit Aransanyalak.
In the early moments of the game, Thailand almost took the lead in the 3rd minute when Chaowala Sri-Awut set up Muhammad Usman Musa for a shot that narrowly missed the goal. Another opportunity arose in the 6th minute from a corner kick, where Usmanmusa's attempt was thwarted by the South Korean goalkeeper.
South Korea opened the scoring in the 7th minute with a goal by Kim Geun-woo, assisted by Shin Jong-hun. Despite several chances, including a missed free kick by Alongkorn Chanporn in the 13th minute, Thailand ended the first half trailing 0-1.
The second half saw Thailand equalizing in the 25th minute from a corner kick, as Teerapat Muensri scored after an initial save by the South Korean goalkeeper. However, South Korea reclaimed the lead in the 30th minute with a goal from Lee Han-wol, assisted by Om Ji-yong.
Thailand responded quickly, leveling the score 2-2 in the 34th minute with a goal by Muhammad Usmanmusa, following an assist from Sarawut Phalapruk. Despite efforts from both sides, the score remained unchanged, concluding the match in a draw.
With this result, the Thai futsal team emerged as Group B champions and secured their spot in the final round of the AFC Futsal Asian Cup 2026, scheduled to be held in Indonesia from January 27 to February 7, 2025.
