Thaksin Shinawatra Travels to Singapore Amid Legal Proceedings

Bangkok: Thaksin Shinawatra has flown to Singapore, with his lawyer confirming that he will appear in court on September 9th to hear the case on the 14th floor. Thaksin traveled on a private jet after the court dismissed the Section 112 case, allowing him freedom to travel.

According to Thai News Agency, Thaksin Shinawatra’s departure for Singapore occurred following a court decision that lifted restrictions previously placed on him. Lawyer Winyat Chatmontri confirmed that Thaksin is scheduled to attend a court hearing on September 9th. Immigration officials at Don Mueang did not detain him, as they lacked the authority without an arrest warrant or court order. Thaksin is reportedly in Singapore for a two-day medical appointment and is expected to return for the court appearance.

The news of Thaksin’s travel emerged as the House of Representatives prepared to vote on the 32nd Prime Minister on September 5, 2025. The Supreme Court’s Criminal Division for Political Parties has scheduled his hearing in coordination with the Bangkok Remand Prison Commander, following the dismissal of l¨se-majest© charges against him on August 22nd. Thaksin’s lawyer announced intentions to request the court to revoke a previously imposed travel ban, which had already been lifted.

The Royal Thai Police clarified that the Immigration Bureau cannot detain Thaksin in the absence of an arrest warrant or court order. They are permitted only to inspect his passport, given his high-profile status and forthcoming court appearance. Detention without proper authorization could lead to legal repercussions for the Immigration Bureau.

Mr. Winyat Chatmontri, Thaksin’s lawyer, reiterated that Thaksin intends to comply with the Supreme Court’s summons for the September 9th hearing. He also sought permission for Thaksin’s children to be present at the hearing.

Judicial sources confirmed that the Criminal Court’s dismissal of the l¨se-majest© charges allows Thaksin to travel without court-imposed restrictions. Thaksin’s legal team plans to retrieve travel documents from the court in light of this ruling.

The Supreme Court has scheduled its hearing for September 9th without imposing an arrest warrant for Thaksin’s non-appearance. This indicates that the summons is currently a request for attendance, not a travel restriction.
