Thaksin’s Grandson Seeks Legal Action Over Edited Online Post

Bangkok: Thaksin’s grandson has taken legal steps after encountering online defamation through edited posts. Ms. Chayika Wongnapachandra, who serves as an advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and is the niece of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, met with Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairong Phiwpaen, Commissioner of the Technology Crime Suppression Division (TCSD), and Pol. Maj. Gen. Wiwat Khamchamnan, Deputy Commissioner of the TCSD. She filed charges under the Computer Crimes Act against individuals who edited her photos and added slanderous comments, causing damage.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Chayika reported the defamatory accusations to the Technology Crime Suppression Division (TCSD) and filed a complaint at Khlong Tan Police Station. The allegations involve manipulated images and false content, which she claims are untrue. Although she is reluctant to sue, the viral nature of the news has compelled her to seek justice. She emphasized the importance of unity in the face of external threats, urging against the spread of false information. Ms. Chayika expressed her discouragement and sought public sympathy regarding the situation.

Numerous groups have shared these defamatory posts, prompting Ms. Chayika to report the issue to the police. Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairong confirmed that initial investigations identified a photoshopped image with inaccurate text. The Cyber Police are investigating and will take action under the Computer Crimes Act for the manipulation and distortion of information causing damage. So far, only one individual has been reported, and the investigation is ongoing.
