According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Thanakorn Wangboonkhongchana, Minister of Industry, stated that the Phuket Vegetarian Festival will attract a large number of tourists from around the world, as in previous years. He believes Phuket has potential for the wellness sector, particularly in terms of its comfortable accommodations, refreshing climate, and healthy food options, ranging from local to international cuisine. He has instructed the Department of Industrial Promotion to organize the event to stimulate the economy, leveraging local soft power.
During the Vegetarian Festival, Phuket residents will hold a vegetarian festival from October 20-29, 2025. It is expected that at least 1,000,000 Thai and foreign tourists will participate in the event in Phuket, with an expected circulation of at least 15 billion baht. On October 20, 2025, at 4:30 PM, Mr. Thanakorn will travel to the Saeng Tham Shrine to preside over the raising of the Ko Teng pole and the invitation of the nine lanterns, which symbolize the Phuket Vegetarian Festival.
The 134-year-old Sang Tham Shrine is hosting its first Vegetarian Festival this year, making it the oldest shrine in Phuket Town. Located in the commercial district of Phang Nga Road, Phuket’s main economic thoroughfare, it is the oldest shrine in Phuket.
