Bangkok: The Meteorological Department has announced thunderstorms across Thailand and warned six eastern provinces: Mae Hong Son, Tak, Phitsanulok, Phetchabun, Chanthaburi, and Trat to brace for heavy rain and possible flash floods and mudslides.
According to Thai News Agency, widespread rainfall is expected throughout Thailand, with particular concern for heavy to very heavy rain in the eastern region. Residents in the affected provinces are urged to remain vigilant due to the risk of flash floods and landslides, especially in hilly areas near waterways and low-lying regions.
This weather pattern results from a monsoon trough passing through the lower northern and northeastern regions, entering a strong low-pressure area over the upper South China Sea. The impact is intensified by a relatively strong southwest monsoon prevailing over the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand. The Meteorological Department emphasizes the importance of caution due to these conditions.
Mariners in the region are also advised to proceed with caution. Waves in the upper Andaman Sea are reportedly quite strong, with heights reaching 2-3 meters and exceeding 3 meters in thunderstorm areas. Similarly, in the lower Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand, waves are approximately 2 meters high, with thunderstorm areas seeing waves exceeding this height. Small boats in the upper Andaman Sea are advised to remain ashore until August 17th.
