Thunderstorms Forecasted Across Upper Thailand, Moderate Sea Waves Expected

Bangkok: The Meteorological Department has issued a forecast predicting thunderstorms in some areas of upper Thailand due to a weak southwest monsoon prevailing over the region and a low-pressure area covering upper Vietnam. This weather pattern is expected to persist over the next 24 hours.

According to Thai News Agency, the department also reported moderate waves in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, with heights reaching 1-2 meters in the upper Andaman Sea. In areas experiencing thunderstorms, waves could rise above 2 meters. Boat operators are advised to navigate with caution and avoid sailing in regions affected by thunderstorms.

The regional weather forecast indicates varying levels of thunderstorm activity across different areas. In Bangkok and surrounding regions, thunderstorms are expected in 20% of the area, with temperatures ranging from 27-28 degrees Celsius at the minimum to 34-37 degrees Celsius at the maximum. The northern region will experience thunderstorms in 30% of the area, particularly in provinces such as Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, and Chiang Rai, with temperatures between 23-27 degrees Celsius at the minimum and 32-36 degrees Celsius at the maximum.

Furthermore, the northeastern region will see thunderstorms in 30% of the area, mainly in Nong Khai and Sakon Nakhon, with minimum temperatures of 24-26 degrees Celsius and maximum temperatures of 34-37 degrees Celsius. In the central region, 20% of the area, particularly in Kanchanaburi and Ratchaburi, will experience thunderstorms, with temperatures ranging from 24-27 degrees Celsius at the minimum to 36-38 degrees Celsius at the maximum.

The eastern region will have thunderstorms in 30% of the area, including Prachinburi and Chanthaburi, with temperatures between 25-28 degrees Celsius at the minimum and 33-35 degrees Celsius at the maximum. Sea waves in this region are expected to be around 1 meter high, exceeding 2 meters during thunderstorms.

In the southern region, thunderstorms are forecasted for 30% of the eastern coast and 40% of the western coast. Notably, Nakhon Si Thammarat and Songkhla on the east, and Ranong and Krabi on the west, will be affected. Temperatures on the east coast will range from 24-26 degrees Celsius at the minimum to 34-36 degrees Celsius at the maximum, while the west coast will see minimum temperatures of 24-27 degrees Celsius and maximum temperatures of 33-34 degrees Celsius. Waves on the west coast could reach 1-2 meters, with higher waves during thunderstorms.
