Bangkok: ‘TIS Watch’ has been officially launched, utilizing AI to tackle substandard products online across multiple platforms, setting new benchmarks for Thailand’s e-commerce market.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Sasikarn Wattanachan, Deputy Government Spokesperson, announced on the ‘Singing from the Heart of Thai Khu Fa’ program that the government, under the leadership of Mr. Ekkanat Promphan, Minister of Industry, launched the ‘TIS Watch’ system on July 7. This system employs AI technology to scrutinize and eliminate substandard products from online marketplaces, aiming to bolster consumer safety and ensure fair competition for Thai businesses.
The ‘TIS Watch’ system operates continuously and can precisely identify and evaluate product links that may not comply with TIS standards. In the past five months of testing, it has identified over 125,000 suspicious links, resulting in the removal of more than 2,800 links and leading to 777 ongoing prosecutions under the Industrial Product Standards Act. These actions have been particularly focused on popular e-commerce platforms.
Notable substandard products identified include food packaging plastics, children’s toys, motorcycle exhaust pipes, extension cords, power banks, and helmets, all posing potential risks to consumer safety.
Plans are underway to enhance the ‘TIS Watch’ system’s capabilities to detect counterfeit products, fake licenses, and legally non-compliant products more effectively. Additionally, a public reporting channel will be introduced via the Ministry of Industry’s ‘????????’ Line account, allowing citizens to contribute to monitoring and ensuring safe product standards.
Ms. Sasikarn emphasized that the ‘TIS Watch’ system is a proactive initiative designed to protect consumers, leveraging modern technology to enhance online safety standards and support fair competition for Thai entrepreneurs in the digital marketplace.
