Unemployment Compensation for Insured Persons Under Section 33 Increases

Bangkok: Insured individuals under Section 33 who face unemployment due to layoffs can now expect increased compensation, thanks to a recent change in the Ministerial Regulation concerning unemployment benefits.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Anukul Prueksanusak, Deputy Government Spokesperson, announced that the Royal Gazette has published a new Ministerial Regulation that raises the unemployment compensation rate to better reflect current economic and social conditions. This change sees the compensation for layoffs increase to 60 percent of the average salary, capped at 9,000 baht per month, compared to the previous 50 percent rate with a maximum of 7,500 baht. Over a period of 180 days, the maximum compensation will now total 54,000 baht, up from the former cap of 45,000 baht.

Insured persons under Section 33 who have resigned or been terminated can apply for unemployment benefits through the website https://e-service.doe.go.th within 30 days of job termination. The compensation differs based on the reason for unemployment: those laid off will receive 60 percent of their average salary for up to six months, while those who resign or have their employment contracts terminated will receive 30 percent for up to three months.

For individuals who experience multiple job losses within the same year, they can apply for benefits each time, provided the total compensation does not exceed 180 days for layoffs and 90 days for resignations. Eligibility conditions include having contributed to the Social Security fund for at least six months in the 15 months prior to unemployment, being unemployed for at least eight days, and registering as unemployed within 30 days of leaving work.

The government emphasizes its dedication to supporting insured individuals who have lost their jobs, ensuring they have sufficient income to manage their expenses. Eligible persons can apply for benefits online or at Social Security Offices nationwide, excluding the head office in the Ministry of Public Health. It is crucial to register for unemployment compensation within 30 days of job loss, as retroactive applications are not permitted. For further inquiries, individuals can contact the Social Security Hotline at 1506, which operates 24/7.
