Hanoi, Vietnam – Vietnam and Cuba are set to boost their collaboration in the biotechnology sector, following key agreements between their respective institutions. The Finlay Vaccines Institute of Cuba and the Vietnamese company Vabiotech formalized their commitment to strengthen ties in this field on November 24. This development marks a significant step in the ongoing cooperation between the two nations in biotechnology.
According to Vietnam News Agency, as reported by Cuban news agency Prensa Latina (PL), a delegation from Vabiotech, led by its director Nguyen Anh Tuan, visited the Finlay Institute recently. During this visit, they discussed future projects and collaboration opportunities. The Vietnamese representatives received updates on the institute’s work and progress in various biotechnological fields.
The meeting underscored the mutual desire to expand the collaboration between the Finlay Institute and Vabiotech, focusing on various aspects of biotechnology. This collaboration is expected to foster advancements in research and development in this vital sector.
In a related development, Duc Minh Medical JSC (Almedic), another Vietnamese entity, has engaged in significant agreements with Cuba’s leading biological centers. These include the Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB) and the Centre of Molecular Immunology (CIM). The agreements cover vaccine distribution and development, indicating a broader scope of cooperation between Vietnamese and Cuban biotechnology sectors.
Further cementing these ties, Almedic has collaborated with Da Lat Pasteur Vaccine Company Limited (DAVAC) to oversee a phase of Cuban vaccine production in Vietnam. This collaboration has involved the exchange of expertise and resources, with Vietnamese technicians and managers receiving training in Cuba’s advanced biological centers and laboratories. Conversely, Cuban experts have been invited to Vietnam to provide technical training for vaccine production facilities and quality monitoring agencies in the country.
These initiatives highlight a growing partnership between Vietnam and Cuba in the field of biotechnology, promising significant advancements and collaboration in vaccine development and other areas of biotechnological research.
