Wisut Chainarun Unaware of Deputy Speaker Nomination Amidst Narrow Government Majority

Bangkok: Wisut Chainarun, a Member of Parliament for the Pheu Thai Party and a member of the coordinating committee of the coalition parties, expressed surprise upon learning that his name was listed as the second Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives. He mentioned the necessity of discussing the matter with colleagues in the Pheu Thai Party during a scheduled meeting on July 2. Despite the government’s narrow majority, Wisut remains optimistic, suggesting that a smaller majority fosters unity and resilience.

According to Thai News Agency, Wisut commented on the circulating news regarding his potential role, stating that he was made aware of the information through external sources. He emphasized the importance of party discussions, highlighting the democratic nature of the Pheu Thai Party, where decisions are made collectively. Wisut acknowledged that while the position is part of the Pheu Thai Party’s quota, further discussions within the party are essential to finalize the decision, which is anticipated by July 2.

Addressing concerns about the government’s razor-thin majority and the impact on passing crucial legislation, Wisut downplayed potential issues. He stressed the importance of unity, urging ministers to be present during key parliamentary sessions on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Wisut conveyed confidence in the party’s ability to maintain cohesion, suggesting that such unity is vital for the country’s and parliament’s success.
