Anutin Clarifies No Deadline for Cambodian Eviction from Ban Nong Chan

Bangkok: Anutin Charnvirakul, Thailand’s Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, has reiterated that there is no set deadline for the removal of Cambodians from the Ban Nong Chan area. Emphasizing the government’s responsibility, he stated that Thailand is committed to supporting its military and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in exercising their authority within established frameworks to achieve their objectives. Anutin stressed the importance of maintaining a peaceful atmosphere in the region to prevent conflicts while safeguarding Thailand’s dignity and sovereignty.

According to Thai News Agency, Anutin addressed the management of the Ban Nong Chan area, located in Sa Kaeo Province, by assigning the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to engage in discussions with Cambodia to reach a mutual understanding. He noted that the Ministry had communicated to Cambodia that Thailand must operate in accordance with the law.

Security agencies, including the military, the Royal Thai Police, and the Sa Kaeo provincial administrative organization, are actively involved in managing this issue. Anutin cautioned against revealing specific actions as it could harm both nations, emphasizing adherence to legal frameworks rather than arbitrary actions. Despite the international nature of the matter, the government remains committed to upholding Thailand’s laws and dignity.

Anutin highlighted the necessity of maintaining a peaceful atmosphere to prevent regional conflicts while upholding Thailand’s honor, sovereignty, and legal statutes. He emphasized the importance of diplomatic negotiations through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reaffirming the government’s support for military and diplomatic efforts to achieve their goals.

When questioned about potential troop deployments by Cambodia on October 10, Anutin referred to existing security frameworks established since his tenure began. He confirmed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ authority over diplomacy, reiterating the government’s dedication to Thailand’s sovereignty and dignity.

In response to inquiries about recent security agency discussions or actions regarding the removal of Cambodians, Anutin emphasized confidentiality and adherence to humanitarian principles. He reiterated the importance of respecting sovereignty and the law.

Concerning rumors of an October 10 deadline, Anutin clarified that such a deadline was never established by the government. He stressed the prioritization of Thai citizens’ safety and the nation’s dignity and sovereignty.

When asked about measures to prevent incitement from either side, Anutin tersely responded, “Enough, enough,” and left the interview, underscoring the sensitivity of the situation.
