Anutin Clarifies Stance on Prime Ministerial Aspirations Amid Political Speculations

Bangkok: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul, leader of the Bhumjaithai Party, has addressed questions regarding his potential candidacy for prime minister, emphasizing that as the leader of the second-largest coalition party, he does not aspire to the position at this time.

According to Thai News Agency, Anutin responded to inquiries about his prospects of becoming prime minister should a political upheaval occur, stating that the Pheu Thai Party still has eligible candidates for the prime ministerial role. When asked about Chaikasem Nitisiri’s health concerns, Anutin noted that many individuals have successfully recovered after assuming the prime ministerial position.

When pressed on whether there was a possibility of him being named prime minister, Anutin humorously remarked on the improbability, citing the Bhumjaithai Party’s ranking as second. He emphasized the need to wait until they become the leading party before considering such aspirations.

Reflecting on past experiences, Anutin shared, “In 2019, Bhumjaithai wielded more influence but opted to serve as a coalition party due to not being the top coalition party. Forcing ourselves into the prime ministerial role would complicate governance. Currently, we are committed to our work and have no issues collaborating with the current prime minister, who is competent. Bhumjaithai stands ready to support him.”

Regarding future electoral prospects, Anutin mentioned advising party members to remain active in their constituencies, believing that their dedication to public service can translate into electoral success. He stressed the importance of maintaining strongholds and addressing existing challenges in contested areas.
