Bangkok: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul has dismissed addressing questions regarding former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra’s demand for the Interior Ministry seat, asserting that he continues to work diligently. When approached by reporters at the parliament, where he was present for a vote on the 2026 budget bill, Anutin claimed to have a “stomachache” and avoided further interviews.
According to Thai News Agency, the media sought clarification on Thaksin’s discussion about cabinet adjustments and his intention for the Pheu Thai Party to reclaim the Ministry of Interior. Thaksin suggested that the ministry is not operating at its full capacity. Anutin, while heading to the elevator, briefly responded that he would address flooding issues in Ang Thong the following day and highlighted his ongoing work, including efforts against illegal cigarettes. He encouraged the media to verify his claims through news reports.
When further questioned about Thaksin’s alleged plan to take over the Interior Ministry, Anutin reiterated, “The Prime Minister said there was nothing. Let’s ask the Prime Minister. There is nothing yet. We haven’t discussed it at all. There is nothing. I haven’t talked to the Prime Minister yet. And the Prime Minister said there is nothing.”
In response to whether he felt disheartened by the situation, Anutin humorously touched his head and retorted, “Oh, am I bald?” Regarding any direct communication with Thaksin Shinawatra, Anutin replied, “You have to talk to the Prime Minister, sir.”
As the elevator doors were closing, Anutin waved goodbye to the press, reiterating his earlier statement, “I have a stomachache.”
