Bangkok: Anutin Charnvirakul, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, has kept the media and the public guessing about his future in the coalition government. This comes after former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra reportedly pushed to take over the Interior Ministry, a move that has stirred political waters.
According to Thai News Agency, Anutin, who also leads the Bhumjaithai Party, was seen having a conversation with Prime Minister Paethongtarn Shinawatra during a House of Representatives meeting on the draft budget bill for fiscal year 2026. When asked about the discussions, Anutin simply wished everyone a good weekend, avoiding any direct answers.
The Bhumjaithai Party leader faced further inquiries about his discussions with Prime Minister Paethongtarn, particularly regarding Thaksin’s interest in the Interior Ministry position. Anutin stated that he had not talked to the Prime Minister about Thaksin.
Questions about whether the Bhumjaithai Party might withdraw from the coalition government due to criticisms of its performance also went unanswered. Instead, Anutin mentioned plans to visit Ang Thong the following day.
As the media pressed for clarity on these issues, Anutin chose not to provide further comments. He departed the parliament building, leaving the questions lingering, but not before reiterating his weekend wishes to the gathered reporters.
