Anutin Sees No Imminent Election Amidst Rumors of Resignation

Bangkok: Anutin Charnvirakul, leader of the Bhumjaithai Party, has dismissed rumors regarding Paethongtarn’s resignation as mere speculation and clarified that an election is not anticipated until 2026. He emphasized that the current political situation remains unclear, particularly with the Prime Minister being suspended from duty, which prevents the dissolution of parliament.

According to Thai News Agency, Anutin addressed the recent interactions between Bhumjaithai Party leader Pipat Ratchakitprakarn and former Deputy Interior Minister Nipit Bunyamanee, amidst speculation about Nipit’s potential transfer to the Bhumjaithai Party. Anutin maintained that such meetings were gestures of goodwill and insisted on directing inquiries to Pipat regarding any political moves. He reiterated that Nipit remains a member of the Democrat Party and emphasized the importance of maintaining the status quo in politics, as elections are not on the immediate horizon.

In response to speculation about Mr. Nipit’s role in the Bhumjaithai Party concerning Khao Kradong, Anutin noted Nipit’s experience as a former Deputy Minister of the Interior and his respected status in politics. Anutin dismissed analyses suggesting an imminent election despite major legal cases, pointing out the lack of clarity and the Prime Minister’s current suspension from office as factors delaying any electoral process.

Anutin further commented on rumors of the Prime Minister’s potential resignation before a Constitutional Court ruling, labeling such talk as mere rumor. He stressed the importance of individual decision-making and the Bhumjaithai Party’s commitment to its role in the opposition, asserting that the party is performing well despite past criticisms.

Regarding the party’s stance on whether the Prime Minister should resign, Anutin stated that the Prime Minister is currently suspended and adhering to legal protocols. He urged all parties to comply with the law to their best ability and expressed his support for individuals working for the nation.
