Anutin Vows to Oppose Casinos, Eyes Future Budget as Opposition Leader

Bangkok: Anutin Charnvirakul, leader of the Bhumjaithai Party, has declared his firm stance against the establishment of casinos as he assumes the role of opposition leader. He also emphasized his party’s vigilance regarding the upcoming 2026 budget proposal.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Anutin addressed the government’s plans to reclassify cannabis as a narcotic, limiting its use to medical purposes. He highlighted that the Bhumjaithai Party had previously drafted a comprehensive cannabis law, which aligned closely with the current government’s intentions. However, their efforts were thwarted by other coalition parties at the time. Mr. Anutin clarified that the Bhumjaithai Party’s original intentions were consistent with promoting medical cannabis, which remains in line with the government’s current direction.

Mr. Anutin further discussed the implications of Bhumjaithai Party’s opposition status on their approach to the 2026 budget bill. He stated that the party is currently evaluating its stance within the committee and emphasized that their role as the opposition will guide their actions.

Regarding the proposed legislation on entertainment complexes, Mr. Anutin reiterated the Bhumjaithai Party’s independence in decision-making. He affirmed the party’s opposition to the establishment of casinos, a position they could not fully assert while part of the previous coalition government. Now, as an opposition party, Bhumjaithai is committed to making decisions that reflect their core identity and values.
