Pheu Thai Announces Strict Controls on Cannabis Use and Sales

Bangkok: “Pheu Thai” has made an immediate announcement revealing new regulations on cannabis usage, emphasizing its restriction to medical purposes and banning unlicensed sales, including online platforms.

According to Thai News Agency, the Pheu Thai Party disseminated details on their Facebook page about the Ministry of Public Health’s forthcoming regulations on cannabis management set for 2025. This announcement, made by Mr. Somsak Thepsuthin, the Minister of Public Health, highlights several key changes, particularly the designation of cannabis flower buds as a controlled herb. The changes revoke the Ministry’s earlier 2022 announcement, now requiring individuals interested in studying, researching, exporting, selling, or processing cannabis to obtain a license under Section 46. They must also adhere to conditions such as submitting specified information to the Director-General.

Furthermore, the new regulations prohibit cannabis sales in business establishments except for licensed medical practitioners. Sales through vending machines or electronic platforms, including advertising, are also forbidden. Additionally, the sale of cannabis will not be permitted in various public places such as temples, dormitories, public parks, zoos, and amusement parks.
