Bhumjaithai Party Challenges Thaksin’s Ties with Cambodian Leader Amid Border Dispute

Bangkok: Bhumjaithai Party has launched a counter-offensive by releasing old video clips aimed at Thaksin Shinawatra, questioning his relationship with the Cambodian leader. The party asserts its commitment to Thai interests, distancing itself from accusations of favoring Cambodia. The party insists it is not attacking the Prime Minister over national betrayal but is instead urging accountability in relation to a leaked audio clip incident. Chaichanok Chidchob of the Bhumjaithai Party humorously questioned the closeness required to have a bedroom in one’s house.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Nan Bunthida Somchai, MP for Ubon Ratchathani and spokesperson for the Bhumjaithai Party, together with Mr. Chainchanok Chidchob, MP for Buriram and secretary-general of the Bhumjaithai Party, Mr. Paradorn Prisananantakul, MP for Ang Thong, and Mr. Chalat Ratchakitprakan, MP for the party list, made a joint announcement following a party meeting. They addressed the fallout from the Thai-Cambodian border dispute, which has domestic political implications.

Ms. Nan Bunthida expressed concern over comments made during the past week, particularly by a former leader who referenced the Bhumjaithai Party in a derogatory manner. She clarified that the party had officially withdrawn from the government coalition on June 18th. The controversy stems from a leaked audio clip featuring a discussion between Prime Minister Paethongtarn Shinawatra and Samdech Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian Senate. The Bhumjaithai Party demands accountability from the Prime Minister for compromising Thailand’s national dignity.

The spokesperson reaffirmed that the Bhumjaithai Party prioritizes Thai interests and has never acted in a manner that benefits foreign entities. She refuted allegations that the party condemned the Prime Minister for selling the nation, stating that they only sought accountability in line with their statement.

The Bhumjaithai Party emphasized its identity as a Thai political entity, rejecting any affiliations with Cambodian interests. The party criticized the Pheu Thai Party leader and his family’s longstanding media-documented relationship with the Cambodian leader. The Bhumjaithai Party presented historical footage from red-shirt rallies to underscore Thaksin’s relationship with Cambodia. The clip showed Thaksin and Pheu Thai Party members thanking Samdech Hun Sen and singing his praises.

Chaichanok Chidchob commented on the need to evaluate political actions rather than rhetoric. He questioned the nature of relationships between individuals and posed hypothetical scenarios to highlight the absurdity of certain accusations. He urged the public to scrutinize the performance of all political parties, including the coalition and opposition, to ensure they prioritize national interests amid ongoing crises.
