Bangkok: The Bhumjaithai Party is facing internal turmoil following an incident involving three of its MPs who voted against the party’s resolution. Mr. Chaichanok Chidchob, the MP for Buriram Province and the party’s secretary-general, has reiterated that the MPs’ actions were intentional and not a mistake. The event has raised concerns about the stability of the government and the party’s cohesion.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Chaichanok stressed the importance of addressing this issue to avoid misunderstandings within society. He highlighted that the three MPs, who have been referred to as ‘Cobra’ MPs, were seated away from the rest of the party in parliament. Despite their claims of an accidental vote, Mr. Chaichanok expressed skepticism. He emphasized the need for a thorough investigation, given the severity of the situation. The Bhumjaithai Party has tasked Mr. Chatcha Thaiset with leading the investigation, reflecting the party’s commitment to its core principles of nation, religion, and monarchy.
Mr. Chaichanok also acknowledged the possibility of similar incidents occurring in the future. He urged party members to prioritize national interests over personal gains. The party has temporarily suspended the activities of the three MPs, pending the investigation’s outcome. This decision is consistent with a previous case involving Mr. Ekkarat Changlao.
In terms of prevention, Mr. Chaichanok admitted that it is challenging to prevent such incidents entirely. He emphasized the responsibility of MPs to act in the best interest of the people and the country, rather than succumbing to financial temptations. The investigation into the financial aspects of the incident will be handled by a dedicated audit committee, ensuring a fair and unbiased process.
Mr. Chaichanok expressed hope that the public’s increasing political awareness will ensure accountability and transparency in the political process. He stressed the importance of respecting the public’s interest and warned that ignoring it could be detrimental.
Regarding potential future incidents of MPs voting against party resolutions, Mr. Chaichanok pointed out that the current government’s instability could lead to more such occurrences. He underscored the need for confidence in the government’s decisions to prevent further defections.
Mr. Chaichanok concluded by stating that if the investigation provides clear evidence of wrongdoing, the party will expel the implicated MPs and pursue legal action. He also addressed rumors about additional MPs being approached for similar actions, confirming that there is no evidence at this time. However, he remains vigilant and committed to ensuring party integrity.
