Cabinet Approves Compensation for Border Incident Victims and Establishes Fake News Committee

Bangkok: The Cabinet has approved compensation for each person who died in the Thai-Cambodian border conflict, amounting to 8-10 million baht. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai, confirmed the government’s decision after a cabinet meeting, emphasizing the agenda, “Overcoming Two Crises and Moving Forward Together.” The government extends its condolences to the bereaved families and assures mobilization of efforts to address the loss experienced by the affected citizens.

According to Thai News Agency, the Cabinet has sanctioned 10 million baht in compensation for each family of deceased soldiers and 8 million baht for each family of deceased civilians. Additionally, a committee has been established to monitor and analyze news on social media to prevent the dissemination of fake news that could threaten national security and public safety. This initiative is part of the government’s broader efforts to address the current challenges, including trade tariffs imposed by the United States.

The US has announced a 19% trade tariff on Thailand, a measure that the Thai government sees as an opportunity to preserve its global competitiveness. In response, financial measures such as soft loans, debt relief, and encouragement of using domestically produced products have been introduced. These initiatives aim to support Thai entrepreneurs and farmers, ensuring they can adapt to these changes. The government believes that unity among all Thais is essential in navigating these challenges.
