Bangkok: The Meteorological Department reports continued rainfall across Thailand and warns the eastern region to brace for heavy rain, which could lead to flash floods and mudslides.
According to Thai News Agency, the department has reported heavy rain in some areas of Thailand, with very heavy rainfall expected in certain parts of the eastern region. Residents in these areas are advised to remain vigilant due to the potential dangers of flash floods and landslides. This weather pattern is attributed to a monsoon trough stretching over northern Thailand, upper Laos, and into a low-pressure area over northern Vietnam, along with a moderate southwest monsoon affecting the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand.
The department further reports that waves in the Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand are moderate, with wave heights reaching approximately 2 meters, and surpassing 2 meters in areas experiencing thunderstorms. Similarly, waves in the lower Andaman Sea range from 1-2 meters, escalating beyond 2 meters during thunderstorms. Mariners navigating the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand are urged to exercise caution and avoid regions prone to thunderstorms.
Additionally, Typhoon “Podul,” currently in the Pacific Ocean, is projected to bypass Taiwan and make landfall in eastern China between August 13 and 14. The storm, however, is not expected to impact Thailand directly.
