Election Commission Dismisses Petitions Against 206 Senatorial Candidates in Amnat Charoen

Amnat charoen: The Election Commission (EC) has dismissed petitions against 206 district-level senator candidates from Amnat Charoen province, citing a lack of evidence connecting them to any financial misconduct or election fraud.

According to Thai News Agency, the EC published a ruling on its website regarding the case involving the senator elections in Mueang Amnat Charoen District. The petition accused these candidates, from 20 occupational groups, of lacking the necessary qualifications and engaging in illegal activities to influence the election outcome. The allegations included offering or accepting money, assets, or benefits to induce candidacy or voting decisions, in violation of the Organic Act on the Acquisition of Senators 2018.

The EC’s investigation, conducted by the Investigation and Inquiry Committee, revealed no evidence supporting the allegations. The petitioner declined to provide a statement, weakening the case. The accused candidates consistently maintained that they met the qualifications, had relevant experience, and had not engaged in any prohibited activities. Witnesses, including community committee members and certifiers, corroborated these claims, stating they had no knowledge of any illicit financial transactions or inducements.

The investigation into the financial transactions of the candidates showed no suspicious activities. The EC concluded that there was no violation of the 2018 Senate Member Acquisition Act, and therefore dismissed the petitions against the candidates.
