Energy and Industry Ministries Collaborate to Simplify Solar Cell Installation Laws

Bangkok: Energy and Industry Ministry join forces to pass laws to facilitate solar cell installation, in line with TIS standards for solar panels, to provide safe, clean energy for every household.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Sasikarn Wattanachan, Deputy Government Spokesperson, announced on the “Singing from the Hearts of Thais in the Sky” program, the collaboration between the Ministry of Energy and the Ministry of Industry to promote solar energy. This initiative aims to make solar energy accessible, safe, and standardized for public use, forming a vital foundation for a sustainable transition to clean energy.

The Ministry of Energy, led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Pirapan Salirathavibhaga, is advocating for legislative changes to facilitate solar cell usage. The proposed bill seeks to simplify the installation process for households by eliminating complex permitting procedures, thereby overcoming regulatory hurdles and promoting solar energy as a public resource.

Simultaneously, the Ministry of Industry, under Industry Minister Ekanat Promphan, is focusing on ensuring that all solar panels, whether domestic or imported, comply with Thai Industrial Standards (TIS). These standards aim to prevent safety issues such as fires, by regulating the manufacturing, importation, installation, and inspection processes. Additionally, the ministry is considering the implementation of surge protection devices that can cut off power in case of malfunctions, significantly mitigating fire risks.

These joint efforts are directed towards making solar energy adoption in Thailand safe, transparent, and affordable for the public. The initiatives are expected to decrease reliance on fossil fuels, reduce air pollution, and assist Thailand in transitioning to a sustainable, low-carbon economy.

Ms. Sasikarn reiterated the government’s dedication to promoting clean energy as the primary power source across households. She emphasized the commitment to establishing stringent safety standards to ensure the quality and safety of solar power, contributing to a sustainable future for Thailand.
