Manhunt Concludes as Suspect Who Injured Officer at Checkpoint is Captured

Bangkok: A dramatic police chase unfolded when a young man on a motorcycle evaded a checkpoint, only to return and collide with a police officer, injuring him. The suspect, identified as Mr. Wutthichai, was apprehended with 20 methamphetamine pills and 0.57 grams of crystal methamphetamine in his possession.

According to Thai News Agency, the incident took place at a checkpoint set up by officers from Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Police Station, as part of the Ayutthaya Phasuk policy aimed at cracking down on illegal activities. The checkpoint was located on a public road in front of the Ayutthaya Elephant Camp and Peniat, Pratu Chai Subdistrict. Mr. Wutthichai, aged 39, initially turned away upon seeing the checkpoint and sped off, prompting a police pursuit.

Officers maintained a safe distance during the chase, which extended to Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Hospital. In a bold move, Mr. Wutthichai drove against traffic to return to the checkpoint. As he appeared to comply by slowing down, he suddenly accelerated, striking Pol. Sgt. Maj. Palawat Kenmuang, Commander of the Patrol Unit, causing the officer to sustain injuries. The collision also resulted in damage to a police vehicle.

After the crash, Mr. Wutthichai attempted to flee on foot but was quickly captured by pursuing officers. Upon searching him, law enforcement discovered methamphetamine pills and crystal methamphetamine hidden on his person.

Mr. Wutthichai was subsequently taken to the hospital, where he was found to have a dislocated shoulder and a fractured arm, necessitating a cast. He admitted to fleeing due to fear of arrest for drug possession, and a urine test confirmed substance use.

As for Pol. Sgt. Maj. Palawat, medical assessments revealed abrasions but no severe injuries, allowing him to be discharged for home recovery.
