MEA and Royal Photographic Society Launch ‘Wireless Metropolis’ Photo Contest with 120,000 Baht Prize

Bangkok: The Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) in collaboration with the Royal Photographic Society of Thailand has announced an exciting photo contest titled ‘Wireless Metropolis to the Modernity of the Future’. This competition invites photographers to capture the evolving landscapes of Bangkok, focusing on the areas transformed by the MEA’s ‘Underground Power Line Project’. The project aims to meet the increasing demand for electricity, enhance safety and stability, and support urban development that aligns with future city planning.

According to Thai News Agency, the contest is open to Thai nationals residing in Thailand, with no restrictions on gender or age. Participants can submit up to 10 images each, taken between January 1, 2023, and August 15, 2025. The contest encourages entries that showcase the beauty, modernity, and orderliness of the underground power line project areas, promoting Bangkok’s image in culture, tourism, and economy.

To ensure fair competition, the organizers have set specific rules and regulations. Photos must be original, captured by the entrants themselves, and must not infringe on any third-party rights. Entries can be in color or black and white, taken from any camera device, including smartphones and tablets. However, drone images are not accepted. All photos must be submitted in .jpg or .jpeg format, adhering to pixel size requirements, and must not have been previously awarded in any competition.

Participants are required to submit their application forms accurately, and any discrepancies or rule violations may lead to disqualification. The organizers retain the rights to use the images for publication across various media for two years, while the copyright remains with the photographers. Entrants are responsible for ensuring compliance with all contest rules, and any breach may lead to disqualification or prize revocation.

The contest promises a total prize of 120,000 baht, with the judging panel having the final say on the winning entries. The organizers emphasize that any legal violations in obtaining images are the sole responsibility of the entrants. The competition aims to inspire creativity and provide a platform for photographers to contribute to the city’s visual transformation.
