Bangkok: MEA held a meeting to explain the underground power line project along the Purple Line, Prajadhipok Road, and Somdej Phra Chao Taksin Road.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Thitiwut Ngernklai, the Deputy Governor of the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA), chaired this meeting, emphasizing the transition from overhead to underground power lines. This initiative is part of an effort to support the city of ASEAN. The meeting included representatives from organizations, government agencies, and local businesses who gathered at the Venita 2 Meeting Room, Away Bangkok Riverside Keen Hotel on Charoen Nakhon Road to discuss the plan’s details and exchange ideas to minimize construction impacts.
The Deputy Governor highlighted that MEA is committed to enhancing energy efficiency in metropolitan life, aligning with the Ministry of Interior’s policies and the government’s directives. The project, set to span from 2025 to 2029, involves upgrading the power line system along the Purple Line South route, particularly on Prajadhipok Road and Somdej Phra Chao Taksin Road, over a 3.4-kilometer stretch. Construction activities will occur from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. daily, in coordination with the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA), to minimize traffic disruptions.
The construction entails building underground manholes and electrical conduits, installing electrical equipment bases, laying underground cables, and converting overhead power supply systems to underground. This project aims to enhance the electrical system’s reliability, prepare for future electricity demands, improve Bangkok’s aesthetic, and increase safety for residents. Meeting participants provided valuable feedback, helping MEA refine the plan to ensure minimal public disruption.
