Migrants Hope for Peace as Thailand and Cambodia Begin Negotiations

Ubon ratchathani: This morning in Ubon Ratchathani Province, the sound of cannons was heard intermittently. Migrants hope that negotiations between Thailand and Cambodia will end the violence quickly.

According to Thai News Agency, at an evacuation center in Ubon Ratchathani Province, food was a crucial factor in the evacuation process. Ubon Ratchathani Province established a royal kitchen on the first day of the unrest, which prepared and distributed food to local evacuation centers. Ingredients were prepared early in the morning, and once the food was ready, it was packaged according to the quantity. Volunteers and individuals responsible for each evacuation center then distributed the food to residents. Some residing at relatives’ homes were also able to collect the food. A total of three meals were prepared, with 5,000 boxes prepared daily.

Volunteers said that the Royal Kitchen has been established for five days and that all personnel from the district and province have been mobilized to assist. They feel proud of their work in helping their brothers and sisters to overcome this crisis together.

The migrants stated that they traveled from Kantharalak District, Sisaket Province, whose home is only one kilometer from the bomb site. They decided to leave the area and stay at a relative’s house in Ubon Ratchathani Province for safety. They then traveled to receive food from the Royal Kitchen and distributed it to their families. They have been following the news and learned that negotiations will take place today between the Thai and Cambodian governments. They wish for a swift conclusion to the negotiations, as they are concerned about their homes and their livelihoods, which are severely lacking income, making life extremely difficult.

Throughout the night, the news team followed Village Defense Volunteers (VDP) patrols to protect villages at the clash site, preventing any ill-intentioned individuals or spies from infiltrating. However, last night’s events remained normal. Since 6:00 AM, the sound of artillery fire has begun, though not as frequently as in the past four days. Initially, no physical or personal impacts have been reported in the area.
