Bangkok: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs clarified that the Ban Nong Chan incident is a process in accordance with Thai law. The Ministry emphasized that the actions in Ban Nong Chan are a legal process under Thai law, highlighting that the movement poses an obstacle to reducing border tensions.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Nikorndej Plangkur, Director-General of the Department of Information and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, responded to reports of Cambodian protests in Ban Nong Chan, Khok Sung District, Sa Kaeo Province. The protests were sparked by a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia, which criticized the Thai government’s actions, claiming they were causing hardship for the Cambodian community residing in Thailand. Mr. Plangkur explained that the government’s measures in the area are crucial for enhancing security within Thailand’s borders. He assured that these measures comply with Thai law and international principles, following clear processes with prior notice and careful consideration by the NBTC, and had the approval of the National Security Council.
The spokesperson further stated that Cambodia’s actions in inciting protests and unrest violate the ceasefire agreement discussed at recent GBC and RBC meetings. He described these actions as irresponsible, unconstructive, and neglectful of the interests and safety of the people involved.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on the Cambodian side to stop inciting public unrest and to refrain from actions that could hinder efforts to ease tensions and pursue a peaceful resolution.
