Monporn Uncertain About Potential Dissolution of Parliament Amid Legal Concerns

Bangkok: Monporn Charoensri, Deputy Minister of Transport, expressed uncertainty regarding the possible dissolution of Parliament by the Pheu Thai Party. She highlighted that the decision ultimately rests with Bhumtham and questioned if there might be legal issues involved. Monporn emphasized that politicians should not fear elections and remained confident that Pheu Thai would implement its campaign policies, despite not having achieved success yet.

According to Thai News Agency, Monporn stated she was unaware if the Cabinet meeting would address the dissolution of Parliament. She indicated that the Pheu Thai Party’s decision would depend on Mr. Phumtham Vejchai assuming the Prime Minister’s duties. She also mentioned that there was no signal for a Pheu Thai Party meeting that afternoon, and the Cabinet agenda remained unknown.

Monporn noted that whether the acting prime minister has the authority to dissolve Parliament would depend on legal interpretations and ultimately on Mr. Phumtham’s actions. She advised waiting for clarity and mentioned that legal experts have been consulted on the matter. Regarding Pheu Thai Party MPs, she assured that those rumored to be leaving the party are still attending meetings and emphasized efforts to retain original party members.

Monporn reiterated the importance of elections for democratic politicians and dismissed concerns about potentially winning fewer than 100 MPs, viewing it as a party strategy. She acknowledged that while Pheu Thai’s policies have not fully materialized, they have been initiated, and she remains unperturbed by the prospect of elections or a parliamentary dissolution.

The potential dissolution of Parliament remains uncertain, and Monporn acknowledged that it might not be the Pheu Thai Party’s final move.
