Pheu Thai Party Discusses First Deputy Speaker Nomination Amid Kla Tham Party’s Unexpected Request

Bangkok: “Suang” announced the Pheu Thai Party’s quota for “First Deputy Speaker of the House” and expressed uncertainty over how “Klatham” could post a request. He was unsure whether to send “Cholnan” and suggested waiting for the party meeting to decide.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Sorawong Thienthong, Minister of Tourism and Sports and Secretary-General of the Pheu Thai Party (PTP), addressed the nomination of the first deputy speaker of the House of Representatives. He questioned whether the Pheu Thai Party meeting today would reach a conclusion. He indicated that the meeting of Pheu Thai Party MPs today would likely discuss this matter.

Regarding the potential candidacy of Dr. Cholanat Srikaew, a Nan MP from the Pheu Thai Party, as previously rumored, Mr. Sorawong clarified that no decision had been made yet. He emphasized that the party meeting would need to decide who to nominate and which candidates would receive support from the party members.

When asked about the Northern quota’s relevance, Mr. Sorawong stated it was not related, as the selection process focused on the individual’s potential. He assured that the party and its members were prepared to support anyone willing to undertake this role.

Regarding coalition parties and their consideration for quotas, Mr. Sorawong mentioned that there had been no discussions. He was puzzled by the Kla Tham Party’s secretary-general posting a message requesting an opportunity for their party to occupy the Deputy Speaker position. He noted that while it was fine for them to make the request, discussions could take place later.

As for the Kla Tham Party, they plan to nominate Satira Pueakpraphan, a Chonburi MP from their party. Mr. Sorawong stated that discussions would need to occur first, as there is time before the parliamentary meeting.

In terms of the Pheu Thai Party’s quota, Mr. Surawong confirmed, “Of course. We will not propose two names to the general meeting.”
