Phnom penh: Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has directed comprehensive assistance in the case of a Thai chef’s death in Cambodia, while the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has tasked the Consul General with probing allegations of a Cambodian hospital’s refusal to treat a Thai national.

According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Anutin Charnvirakul addressed the unfortunate incident, emphasizing that conflicts between Thailand and Cambodia are unproductive. He highlighted the importance of adhering to established negotiation frameworks at the JBC, GBC, and RBC, along with implementing a clear action plan. Anutin assured that if everyone complies with these protocols, the issue can be resolved effectively. He reiterated that assistance will be provided according to legal stipulations, ensuring the best possible support.

Mr. Nikorndej Plangkura, Director-General of the Department of Information and spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reported that the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Siem Reap was approached by Mr. Methachan’s sister on October 7, 2015, for assistance. The Consulate-General coordinated with the Thai-Cambodian Border Liaison Office, which confirmed Mr. Methachan’s death. In light of the reports regarding the refusal of treatment by a Cambodian hospital, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has instructed the Consulate-General to expedite an investigation with the local hospital.
