Unusually Quiet! Nong Chan-Nong Ya Kaew, Devoid of Khmer Mass Movement

Sa kaeo: The overall situation at the Nong Chan-Nong Ya Kaeo border remains calm, but is considered “unusually quiet,” with no Cambodian protesters active. Meanwhile, the Burapha Forces are using drones to patrol the border and find Cambodian soldiers maintaining a strong presence.

According to Thai News Agency, on the morning of October 9, 2025, reporters observed the atmosphere along the Thai-Cambodian border in the areas of Ban Nong Chan and Ban Nong Ya Kaeo, Non Mak Mun Subdistrict, Tok Sung District, Sa Kaeo Province. This area, approximately 4-5 kilometers from the border, is considered a key surveillance area for the Burapha Force in the lead-up to the October 10 deadline.

Burapha Task Force personnel have deployed patrols in collaboration with military intelligence units and are using drones to monitor areas along both sides of the border. The aim is to monitor the movement of soldiers and people from the Cambodian side, as well as to detect any irregularities before the expiration date of measures to deport Cambodians from Sa Kaeo Province.

Aerial footage and CCTV cameras installed along the border revealed dozens of Cambodian soldiers deployed in ambush behind the opposite area. They continued to rotate guards throughout the night, maintaining vigilance.

On the Thai side, Burapha Force personnel have intensified ground and air patrols, setting up permanent observation points along the barbed wire fence at every point to prevent illegal entry and exit of individuals or groups from the opposing side.

However, officials confirmed that as of this morning, no Cambodian protesters had been seen, demonstrating or engaging in unrest as they had in previous periods. The overall situation remains calm, though it is considered “unusually quiet,” as certain Cambodian groups have been seen attempting to send political signals or exert pressure on Thai officials in the lead-up to the deadline.

An official in the area revealed that the silence could be a signal of some preparation from the opposite side, which security forces are still closely monitoring and reporting all movements to senior commanders to assess the situation on October 10.

October 10th marks the deadline for the Sa Kaeo Provincial Governor’s measures, which he ordered security agencies to jointly push out Cambodians who have illegally settled or worked in the Ban Nong Chan and Ban Nong Ya Kaeo areas. This is to maintain security and order in the Thai-Cambodian border area.

Although no serious incidents have occurred this morning, officials from all units remain on high alert, particularly tonight and throughout tomorrow, which are expected to be the most risky periods.
