Sakon nakhon: Irrigation employment in 2025 has seen Sakon Nakhon Province leading the way with over 5,200 people employed, exceeding the project’s target. Deputy Government Spokesperson Anukul Prueksanusak announced that the nationwide irrigation labor employment project, launched by the Royal Irrigation Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, has successfully met its objectives and notably increased the income of local farmers.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Anukul emphasized that the 2025 labor employment project plans to engage 84,716 workers over a 12-month period from October 2024 to September 2025. The project targets four specific groups for employment: farmers registered with the Department of Agricultural Extension, members of local Royal Irrigation Department’s water user groups, local residents and general laborers, and, if necessary, farmers or laborers from neighboring areas.
The most recent data indicates that nationwide employment exceeded the target, reaching 85,965 people, which is 100% of the plan’s target. The leading provinces in terms of employment rates include Sakon Nakhon Province with 5,274 people, Ubon Ratchathani Province with 4,180 people, and Nakhon Ratchasima Province with 3,895 people, as of August 16, 2025. The employed workers are tasked with various irrigation-related activities such as repairs, dredging, maintenance, improvements to irrigation systems, water quality management, and projects related to water disaster prevention and mitigation.
“This success reflects the effective efforts of relevant agencies committed to supporting people across all regions. The Irrigation Labor Employment Project is a valuable initiative that offers farmers opportunities to earn additional income while they are off farming duties and allows them to work close to home,” stated Mr. Anukul.
