Jakarta: Sihasak Phuangketkaew, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, engaged in bilateral discussions with the Indonesian Foreign Minister, HE Mr. Sugiono, to enhance the strategic partnership between the two nations. The meeting took place during a working lunch in the Republic of Indonesia.
According to Thai News Agency, both ministers underscored the strategic importance of their countries’ close relations and celebrated the recent elevation of Thailand-Indonesia relations to a Strategic Partnership, which occurred during the Indonesian President’s visit to Thailand in May 2025. They agreed to jointly develop a Plan of Action aimed at ensuring concrete implementation of their long-term vision for cooperation. As key players in ASEAN and major regional economies, Thailand and Indonesia plan to align their positions on significant regional strategic issues. The discussions also included ASEAN’s role in fostering lasting peace in Myanmar and reaffirmed Thailand’s commitment to resolving its issues with Cambodia through peaceful bilateral mechanisms.
The two countries aim to enhance economic cooperation in various sectors, including agricultural products, sustainable fisheries, the halal industry, energy, tourism, and future industries. Thailand expressed its readiness to host the Joint Trade Committee meeting in 2026 to boost trade and investment. Additionally, Thailand requested Indonesia’s support in facilitating Thai business investments in the country.
