Bangkok: “Surawong” coordinates with the SEA Games Minister to investigate the SEA Games logo released by Cambodia. Surawong has initiated an investigation into reports that Cambodia released a logo claiming to be the official SEA Games logo in Thailand. The Thai authorities have expressed concerns over this development and have warned of possible punitive actions if the logo was released with intent. Thailand asserts that it has already distributed the authentic logo to all participating countries.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Sorawong Thienthong, Minister of Tourism and Sports, addressed the situation involving the Cambodian Olympic Committee’s use of a bull-like image as the 33rd SEA Games logo. This depiction differs from the official logo for the SEA Games scheduled to be held in Thailand. Mr. Sorawong stated that while he had seen the reports, the origins of the logo remain unclear. He emphasized that Thailand, as the host nation for this year’s SEA Games, has an official logo that has been shared with all participating nations. He expressed uncertainty over the motives behind the release of the alternative logo.
Mr. Sorawong has already discussed the issue with Mr. Chaiyaphak Siriwat, Vice President of the National Olympic Committee of Thailand and Minister of the SEA Games. Mr. Chaiyaphak is tasked with investigating the facts surrounding this matter. When questioned about the potential need for formal communication or protest with Cambodia, Mr. Sorawong indicated that the Thai authorities first need to ascertain the method by which the logo was released. Should it be confirmed that the release was official, the SEA Games Council will deliberate on appropriate punitive measures. At present, it remains unclear whether the logo was leaked online or disseminated by the Cambodian government, necessitating further investigation.
