Thais Crossing to Poipet Sees Sharp Decline Amid Tightened Security

Poipet: The number of Thais crossing into Cambodia has significantly dropped after the Burapha Army implemented stringent security measures, effectively restricting Thais from traveling to Poipet.

According to Thai News Agency, the Burapha Task Force has heightened security to its maximum level, requesting that Thais refrain from crossing the border for work or gambling at casinos on the Poipet side. This increased security measure has resulted in a substantial decrease in border crossings, with the number dropping from an average of 4,000-5,000 people per day to fewer than 200 individuals today. Specifically, 121 Thais used Borderpass for arrivals and 196 for departures, while 2,709 used passports for arrivals and 196 for departures.

In comparison, Cambodian nationals crossing the border showed a different trend. There were 6,991 inbound and 6,248 outbound using Borderpass, while 365 entered and 625 exited using passports. The tightened security measures appear to be mainly affecting Thai travelers to Poipet, with a significant decline in their numbers at the Ban Klong Luek permanent border crossing.
