Bangkok: Thaksin Shinawatra has admitted his error in placing too much trust in Thammanat Prompao, stating that the future government formation will be influenced by the People’s Party.
According to Thai News Agency, on the evening of September 1st, approximately 10 Pheu Thai Party MPs organized a gathering in honor of Mr. Chalat Khamchuang, who was recently elected as First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives. Former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra made a surprise appearance to offer his congratulations to Mr. Chalat. During the event, Thaksin addressed the situation involving Captain Thammanat Prompao, an advisor to the Kla Tham Party, who recently withdrew from the Pheu Thai government. Thaksin openly confessed, “I trusted Captain Thammanat too much. I was wrong. I misjudged the wrong person.” This admission prompted the MPs present to express that Thaksin had consistently been misled in the past. They noted that it was unprecedented to witness such an admission from Thaksin, indicating his profound regret. The MPs further shared their dissatisfaction with the internal management of the party, pointing out the neglect of some senior members. Thaksin pledged to personally over
see the party’s formation, emphasizing the wait for the People’s Party’s decision.
Reporters highlighted that the conversation also touched on the recent change in the Constitutional Court, where a judge was replaced on August 29, 2015, coinciding with the trial of former Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra. The new judge’s opinion, although expressed, would not alter the trial’s outcome. The Pheu Thai Party has tasked its legal team with bringing the issue to the President of the Constitutional Court for further interpretation. This move aims to extend the timeline for resolving the prime ministerial election and aid in the party’s negotiation and preparation efforts.
