Chiang mai: The Kiew Mae Pan viewpoint on Doi Inthanon in Chiang Mai province has experienced a surge in tourist activity as temperatures plummeted to 9 degrees Celsius this morning.
According to Thai News Agency, the viewpoint has been bustling with visitors since early morning, all eager to enjoy the chilly weather and the scenic beauty of the area. The significant drop in temperature has led to a full parking lot and an increase in business for the park’s welfare restaurant, particularly for hot food and beverages.
The influx of tourists has also been observed on the Kiew Mae Pan nature trail, a popular 3-kilometer round-trip walk. Visitors are taking advantage of the opportunity to admire the sea of mist, azaleas, and the breathtaking natural surroundings. There is even a chance to spot a goral, a rare and endangered animal, basking on the high cliffs. While the highest peak recorded a temperature of 9 degrees Celsius, the park headquarters experienced a more comfortable 17 degrees Celsius.
The Meteorological Department has issued its first announcement regarding the approaching cold weather. From November 17-23, northern Thailand is expected to see thunderstorms, followed by a drop in temperatures. A high-pressure system or strong cold air mass from China is predicted to cause a decrease in temperatures, with the Northeast likely to experience a drop of 4-7 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, temperatures in the North, Central regions, including Bangkok and its surrounding areas, and the East are expected to fall by 2-4 degrees Celsius.
