Bangkok: Typhoon Kajiki is on the path to intensify and begin impacting Thailand as early as today.
According to Thai News Agency, the Meteorological Department has issued warnings that 57 provinces across the nation should prepare for heavy to very heavy rain from August 24 to 27, 2025. The influences of Tropical Storm “Kajiki,” which is strengthening, are starting to be felt in the country.
Mr. Somkuan Tonjan, Director of the Weather Forecasting Division at the Meteorological Department, reported that Tropical Storm “Kajiki” is currently positioned over the upper South China Sea, moving westward at approximately 20 km/h. It is anticipated to intensify further before progressing into the Gulf of Tonkin and making landfall in northern Vietnam and Laos between August 25 and 26.
The department has warned that the storm’s impact, intensified by a strong southwest monsoon, will result in continuous rainfall across Thailand, affecting 57 provinces including the North, Northeast, Central regions, Bangkok and its vicinity, the East, and the South. Residents in these at-risk areas are advised to be on high alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall, which poses risks of flash floods and landslides, particularly in hillside regions, low-lying areas, and near waterways.
In the maritime regions, the upper Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf of Thailand are expected to experience waves reaching 2-3 meters, with potentially higher waves in areas experiencing thunderstorms. The department has advised small boats to remain ashore during this period for safety.
The Meteorological Department underscores the importance of the public staying informed through official announcements to ensure safety and preparedness during this period.
