Kuta, Bali (ANTARA News) - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has encouraged regional governments in the country to optimize new renewable energy sources in an effort to provide efficient and environmental-friendly energy sources.
"There is much potential that can be explored," Head of Research and Development Center for Electricity Technology, New Energy, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Yunus Saefulhak said here on Thursday.
Saefulhak remarked that new renewable energy can use the potential of local energy, such as solar or water energy, which is considered suitable for remote areas.
In addition, there is the potential for power plants that utilize wind, waste, geothermal or hydro micro, which can be used as new energy sources.
This type of plant can be an option for local governments to meet the needs of people for electricity.
He expressed readiness to support local governments to conduct studies ranging from feasibility studies and detailed engineering design to sale and purchase agreement with state-owned electricity company PLN.
With regard to the potential of new renewable energy sources in Bali, he noted that the region has a great potential for the development of new renewable energy such as water, wind, and geothermal energy.
"The development of biogas in Nusa Penida Island, Klungkung District, should be optimized," he noted.
The Research and Development Center also cooperated with Bali government to build a smart electricity network at the Governors Office which combine solar and wind energy as well as electricity.
"The smart electricity network can reduce electricity costs 50 percent," he pointed out.
