Lubukbasung, W Sumatra (ANTARA) - A flood triggered by incessant heavy rains caused local rivers to overflow their banks and submerged 22 homes in Manggopoh, Lubukbasung Sub-district, Agam District, West Sumatra Province, on Tuesday night.
The floodwaters reached heights of between 50 and 80 centimeters, Muhammad Lutfi Ar, head of the Agam Disaster Mitigation Office (BPBD), stated on Wednesday.
"The water level reaches 50-80 centimeters and Lubukbasung Public High School 3 in Sago is also inundated by one-meter-high floodwaters," he stated.
In Lubuak Lansek, the Durian market was also got inundated since the wee hours on Wednesday.
No fatalities were reported in the natural disaster, and the local authorities have deployed personnel to help flood victims.
He urged residents along the river, low-lying, and mountainous areas to step up vigil when heavy rains lash the area.
"Immediately move to safer areas so as to not become victims," he advised.
