Anutin Clarifies Stance on Drug Suppression Amid Sisaket By-Election Speculations

Bangkok: Anutin Charnvirakul, leader of the Bhumjaithai Party, has addressed the ongoing discussions regarding the effectiveness of drug suppression efforts, emphasizing that the matter cannot be resolved through a single meeting and subsequent promotion as an achievement.

According to Thai News Agency, Anutin responded to claims that the Sisaket by-election could indicate a rise in Bhumjaithai’s popularity or a decline in Pheu Thai’s support. He reiterated that the party’s primary goal in fielding candidates is to ensure representation for the people in every district, as they believe their candidates will bring benefits to the local populace.

Anutin also countered criticisms from the Pheu Thai Party, which accused Bhumjaithai of being an obstacle to drug suppression. He pointed out that real efforts in drug suppression are evident through the arrests made across various provinces, including Phrae, Mae Taeng in Kanchanaburi, and Lamphun. He argued that success in combating drugs should not be measured by a single meeting, but by ongoing efforts and tangible results.

Addressing rumors about organizing a large campaign group in Sisaket, Anutin clarified that no such plans were in place. He explained that any MPs available would participate individually to support the campaign, without any formal organization or large-scale gatherings.

In response to former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra’s comments about his campaign experiences in Sisaket, Anutin dismissed the notion that district chiefs would greet him on campaign days. He shared personal anecdotes to illustrate the improbability of such occurrences, citing his own experiences as a former Interior Minister when he traveled discreetly without official receptions.

When questioned about Thaksin’s potential involvement in the campaign, Anutin humorously referenced a song, indicating his lack of concern over the former Prime Minister’s participation.
